Research is an important component of the VA mission and plays a key role in enhancing the health care services provided to Connecticut’s Veterans. All participants in the research program are committed to ensure the highest ethical and scientific standards are met so research aims are accomplished and the safety and well-being of research subjects, investigators and other employees are protected. The VA Connecticut Healthcare System research program is fully accredited by the VA accrediting body for human subject research and by AAALAC for animal research. VA Connecticut investigators are involved in more than 400 active research projects in medicine, psychiatry, neurology, surgery, dermatology and radiology. More than 150 principal investigators are directing work on these projects.
